Nanaimo Jazz Fest

Nanaimo Jazz Fest is a ten-day festival on the east coast of Vancouver Island, run by a volunteer board. Its tenth anniversary edition ran from 18 to 27 September 2026.

City: Nanaimo
Where: Nanaimo, British Columbia
When: Late September

The festival is built around Nanaimo's harbour. Free concerts are staged in Maffeo Sutton Park on the waterfront, and ticketed shows run in clubs, cafés and small halls nearby, which lets the event stretch over ten days without needing a large festival site. For its tenth year the organisers expanded both the lineup and the outdoor stage.

Programming is broader than a purist jazz bill, running from ten-piece funk bands to drag jazz shows alongside straight-ahead sets, and it fills a September slot on Vancouver Island after the Victoria festival in June. It is one of the newer entries on the Canadian circuit and one of the few jazz festivals in a city of under 100,000 people in British Columbia.
