Privacy Policy

The short version

We do not ask you for anything. Jazz Live Canada has no accounts, no newsletter and no contact form. Our server sets no cookies of its own, and nothing is measured until you answer the privacy banner — which starts on refuse. If you never answer it, you can read every page here without us knowing that you did.

The personal information we do handle is about themusicians we list, in their professional capacity, and it comes from sources that are already public. If you are one of them and want something changed or taken down, section 6 tells you how, and we will do it.

Write to that address for anything in this policy, including access, correction and takedown requests. It reaches the person responsible for the protection of personal information, which Quebec's Law 25 requires us to designate.

We are a Spanish company publishing a Canadian listings site. Two sets of rules apply to us at the same time: Canada's PIPEDAand, for our French-language service, Quebec's Law 25; and, because we are established in the European Union, theGDPR. Where they differ we apply whichever gives you more protection.

2. What we collect from visitors

Nothing that identifies you. Concretely, and measured on this site:

• No cookies from us. Our server never sets one.
• Nothing measured until you say yes. Analytics (Google Analytics 4) and an advertising script are wired into this site, but they are not fetched at all until you accept them in the privacy banner, which starts on refuse. Refuse it, or ignore it, and neither is ever downloaded. What each one does if you accept is set out in our Cookie Policy.
• No accounts, no newsletter, no forms. There is nowhere on this site to type your email address.
• A few preferences stay in your own browser. Your answer to the banner, your light/dark choice and which country edition you picked. They live in your browser's local storage, they are never sent to us, and clearing your browsing data removes them.
• The search box puts what you type into the address bar.It works as an ordinary link, so search terms end up in the web server logs described below. Worth knowing before typing something you would rather not leave behind.

Server logs. Like any web server, the machine that serves these pages records the request: IP address, time, page and browser. That is our hosting provider's standard operational logging, used to keep the site up and to investigate abuse. We do not build profiles from it and we do not link it to anything else.

3. What we publish about musicians

This is the only substantial personal information on the site, and it concerns people in their professional capacity: who is playing, where and when. It is the point of a listings guide.

Where it comes from:

• The concert listings themselves, published by venues, promoters and ticketing platforms — the same information they print on a poster.
• Public reference sources for photographs and discographies: Wikipedia, Deezer, Cover Art Archive and MusicBrainz. We record which source each item came from.
• Short biographies written with the help of a language model, from the sources above. They are generated, not researched by a person, and we say so here because you should know it. They can contain mistakes; tell us and we will fix or remove them.

We do not hold musicians' contact details. There is no email address, telephone number, fee or private note in the Canadian catalogue — the fields exist in our software because other parts of our business use them, and here they are empty.

Our basis for this is our legitimate interest in running a public listings guide, balanced against the fact that the information is already public and professional. That balance can come out differently for you personally, which is what section 6 is for.

4. Who else sees anything

• Hostinger — hosts the website, in the European Union. Its server logs are described in section 2.
• Language model providers — used to draft the event and biography texts described in section 3. What we send them is the public event or reference text; we do not send them anything about you.
• Google — only if you accept analytics. Google Analytics then measures your visit, under Google's own terms. We ask it to anonymise your IP address and we switch off Google Signals and ad personalisation. One thing you cannot see from outside and should know: the analytics property we use for Canada is thesame one as for our British and French editions.

If you write to us — for instance through the “add a musician” or “add a venue” links, which are plain email links — your message and your address arrive in our mailbox and we keep them for as long as it takes to deal with what you asked. That is currently the only way personal information reaches us from this site.

We do not sell, rent or share personal information for anyone else's marketing. Nobody pays us for access to it.

Links out. Pages link to venues, ticketing platforms and shops. Following one takes you to a different company, under its own privacy policy. Some shop links carry an affiliate tag so we earn a commission if you buy; that tag identifies us, not you.

5. Where the information is, and why that matters

The site is hosted in the European Union, and the catalogue is prepared in Spain, where we are based. So information about Canadian concerts and musicians is processed outside Canada, and outside Quebec.

We are telling you plainly because PIPEDA expects it and because Quebec's Law 25 requires an assessment before information leaves the province. The relevant point in our favour is that Canada and the European Union each recognise the other's data protection regime as adequate, and that we are directly subject to the GDPR as a Spanish company — the receiving country's rules are not weaker than Canada's.

6. Your rights, and how to actually use them

Under PIPEDA and Law 25 you can ask us to give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to stop using it, and — under Law 25 — to receive it in a portable format. Under the GDPR you have the equivalent rights, plus erasure and objection.

In practice, for this site, the request that matters is:“that page is about me, change it or take it down.”Email info@clubgre2jazz.com with the link. You do not need to explain yourself and you do not need to prove a harm. We answer within 30 days, which is the PIPEDA deadline, and usually much sooner.

7. How long we keep things

• Concert listings: kept after the date has passed, so that a link to a concert you attended does not turn into a dead page. They are marked as past.
• Musician pages: kept while the musician has concerts in the catalogue; removed on request.
• Server logs: kept by our hosting provider under its own retention schedule, for operational and security purposes.

8. Children

This is a concert listings site, not a service for children, and it collects nothing from anyone. Where consent from a young person would ever be relevant, Quebec sets the threshold at 14.

9. Changes

If we switch on a feature that collects something — an account, a newsletter, analytics — this page changes before it ships, not after. The date at the top tells you when it last changed.
