Medicine Hat JazzFest

Medicine Hat JazzFest is a week-long festival in southeastern Alberta, mixing free outdoor concerts with ticketed club shows and workshops. The 2026 edition ran from 21 to 28 June.

City: Medicine Hat
Where: Medicine Hat, Alberta
When: Late June

The festival is run by a small local team in a city of around 65,000, which shapes its format: outdoor performances are scheduled with indoor backup venues nearby in case of weather, and the box office is handled through the Esplanade arts centre. Programming combines free and ticketed events, club shows and workshops across the week rather than concentrating everything on one main stage.

Pricing is deliberately low for a multi-day festival, with a full festival pass at $160 and a strong youth policy: anyone 25 or under pays $20 for any single JazzFest event, or $80 for a youth pass. That approach and the workshop strand make it one of the clearest examples in western Canada of a mid-sized city festival built around local participation rather than headliner draw.
