Who is Mexican Institute Of Sound
Mexican Institute Of Sound is the recording project of Mexican musician Camilo Lara, blending Mexican folk styles with electronic production and hip-hop. The music draws on cumbia, ranchera and other regional sounds, reworked through beats and samples for a contemporary dancefloor context. Lara is also involved in the collective Mexrrissey, which reinterprets the music of The Smiths.
The project’s discography spans over two decades, from the 2005 album *Méjico máxico* through *Piñata* (2007), *Suave patria* (2010) and *Disco Popular* (2017). A collaborative release with SANT appeared in 2015, and the compilation *Algo-Ritmo: Mexican Institute of Sound Hits 2004–2024* was issued in 2024. A new album, *Ruido Tovar*, is scheduled for 2026. The project maintains an active presence across major streaming and social platforms, including Bandcamp, Spotify and YouTube.
