ASTRO, a fearless large ensemble led by baritone saxophonist Anders Svanoe, blends adventurous free improvisation with groove‑driven compositions. Anchored by two bassists and two percussionists, the group features improvisers from Madison, Milwaukee, and Decorah, Iowa. Their spontaneous, richly textured performances evoke Sun Ra’s visionary spirit while forging a distinct, contemporary jazz sound.
