The Oregon Coast Jazz Party is produced by the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA), the nonprofit that operates the Newport Performing Arts Center at 777 W. Olive Street, in partnership with The Jazz Cruise. It has run for more than two decades, with 2026 marking the 22nd year, and it takes place entirely inside the arts center near Nye Beach rather than outdoors.
The format follows the American "jazz party" tradition: a curated cast of mainstream players assembled by a musical director who then mixes and matches them across sets, rather than a series of self-contained touring bands. Bassist and arranger John Clayton has led recent editions; the 2026 program was built around a tribute to Ken Peplowski.
