The New Mexico Jazz Festival is unusual in that it is not tied to one city: it is co-produced by The Outpost Performance Space at 210 Yale Blvd SE in Albuquerque and The Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe, with performances also reaching Taos. Founded in 2006, it spreads more than twenty performances by around sixteen artists across five weeks rather than compressing them into a weekend.
Venues on both ends of the state include the Outpost itself, the South Broadway Cultural Center, the African American Performing Arts Center and the Albuquerque Museum Amphitheater, plus the Lensic, Santa Fe Plaza, SITE Santa Fe and St. John's College. The 2026 anniversary edition programmed the Fred Hersch Trio, Chucho Valdés, the William Parker Heart Trio, Melissa Aldana, The Bad Plus and Mingus Dynasty, and the festival also carries films, panel discussions and an art exhibition, plus free outdoor concerts.
