Founded in 2001 and run by Lewiston Jazz Festival, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit, it is the largest free jazz festival in western New York. The festival draws more than 30,000 visitors over two days and books over 150 musicians, mixing touring names with regional players from the Buffalo and Niagara scenes. Alongside the music it runs culinary samplings and wine tastings through the village's restaurants and shops.
Its scale relative to the size of Lewiston - a village of a few thousand residents - is what distinguishes it: the whole downtown becomes the venue, with multiple stages within a few blocks of each other and no ticketing. The 2026 edition ran August 28-29; the next is announced for August 27-28, 2027.
