Juneau Jazz & Classics is a nonprofit that has been presenting festivals in Juneau for around four decades; the 2027 edition will be its 41st spring festival, running May 1-15. It brings professional musicians from across the country to a city with no road connection to the rest of North America, which is a large part of why the organization exists at all. It has since added a second, shorter winter event — the 4th annual JazzFest is scheduled for February 10-13, 2027.
Alongside the ticketed concerts, the organization runs a substantial community program: free lunchtime concerts, in-school clinics for band and orchestra programs, classroom visits by festival musicians and complimentary tickets distributed through local nonprofits. It deliberately rotates genres between elementary schools so that students encounter jazz, blues and classical across their school years. Note that the festival is genuinely mixed-genre by design rather than jazz-only.
