Houston Jazz Festival
The Houston Jazz Festival is a two-day event produced by the musician-run Houston Jazz Collective, splitting its program between a free outdoor concert and a night in a jazz club.

The festival is produced by the Houston Jazz Collective, whose stated mission is to enrich and expand the audience for jazz in Houston through performance, education and advocacy. Rather than building a single festival site, the Collective pairs a large free outdoor date with a ticketed club date, which keeps the headliner budget for working jazz musicians instead of infrastructure. The 2026 edition falls on September 18 and 19.
The Friday program takes place at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park, where tickets are free, and features the NOLA Resistance Quintet, a group rooted in traditional New Orleans jazz. Saturday moves to Doc's Jazz Club for two sets by New Orleans trumpeter Nicholas Payton. The festival also runs a visual-art strand built around the work of Texas painter John Alexander, presented alongside the music.
