Healdsburg Jazz was founded in 1999 and has grown into a year-round presenting organization whose centerpiece is the June festival. The 2026 edition is the 28th, and the organization has already published a mid-June window for the following summer. Concerts are concentrated in a handful of downtown rooms rather than a single fairground: the Raven Theater, the Paul Mahler Gallery and the Spirit Bar at Hotel Healdsburg all appear on recent bills.
The programming leans toward acoustic small groups and artist-led projects rather than crossover headliners, which is what earned it its reputation among critics; DownBeat has described it as "All Killer, No Filler" and the San Francisco Chronicle has called it one of the best small jazz festivals in the country. The organization also books single concerts outside the June window, so the Healdsburg name appears on listings in September and October as well.
