Charlottesville Jazz Festival
Charlottesville held its first annual jazz festival in June 2026, spread across the Downtown Mall and organized by the city's long-standing jazz society.

The festival is run by the Charlottesville Jazz Society and was launched in 2026 to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the Downtown Mall. It ran June 4 to 7 with twenty-one performances across seven venues, including the Paramount Theater, the Ting Pavilion, The Front Porch and Vault Virginia. Funding came from the Bama Works grant program through the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, the City of Charlottesville's Vibrant Community Fund and the Ruth and Mortimer Caplin Foundation, rather than from a commercial promoter.
Most events are free. The structure includes a two-night Club Circuit with no cover charge at bars and restaurants on and around the Mall, among them Miller's, Rapture and the Whiskey Jar, plus ticketed concerts headed by vocalist Veronica Swift. The rest of the bill mixes the U.S. Navy Band Commodores, the R4nd4zzo Big Band, Stephanie Nakasian, the Robert Jospé Trio and the Charlie Ballantine Trio with a jazz-history talk. Society president Gary Funston has said the intention is to repeat it annually.
