The Chandler Jazz Festival is organized by the City of Chandler's tourism office within its Economic Development Division, and admission is free — an unusual position for a festival of its length in the Phoenix metropolitan area. It runs four days in early April, timed to the last comfortable outdoor weeks before the Arizona summer.
The festival is built around a main stage in the historic downtown square, with additional sidewalk performances at restaurants and street corners throughout the district, so the whole downtown functions as the venue. Programming mixes national touring acts with local Arizona players, and the city runs it as an alcohol-free and smoke-free event.
