Who is BBC Big Band

The BBC Big Band is a British big band, originally known as the BBC Radio Big Band, that has operated under the auspices of the British Broadcasting Corporation. Made up of professional musicians, the ensemble works in the classic big band format, performing jazz and swing repertoire arranged for a full horn and rhythm section. Its performances are broadcast exclusively on BBC Radio, most notably through the long-running BBC Radio 2 series Big Band Special. The band has been led by a number of conductors over the course of its history. Among them is arranger and composer Barry Forgie, who has served as the band's Musical Director since 1977, and American jazz trombonist Jiggs Whigham, who has also directed the ensemble. This rotating leadership has allowed the band to draw on a wide range of arranging and conducting styles while maintaining its broadcasting role. The BBC Big Band maintains a presence across several platforms, including an official website, a Wikipedia entry, a Discogs discography listing and a Twitter account, where listeners can find further information about its recordings and activities.
