Founded in 1978, the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival began in the city's pubs with a traditional-jazz focus and has grown into a wide-ranging event spanning jazz, blues and beyond. It welcomes Scottish, UK and international artists to venues right across the city.

The festival is known for its free outdoor highlights, including a Carnival and a New Orleans-style Mardi Gras that bring jazz and blues into the streets and the Grassmarket, alongside its ticketed concert programme.
